In summer, I really miss layering. I get tired of wearing a tee and shorts over and over and start looking for ways to make that feel more styled like an outfit. In place of many layers, I have started to rely on more accessories. Here are a few I have my eye on for summer 2023!
A straw bag
It can be hard to figure out summer layering outfits, because layers can be hot. Instead, I recommend adding texture! You know I won’t shut up about straw bags. They come at many price points and can replace my typical day-to-day tote. The style of accessory you choose can also change the vibe of the outfit! This tote is a copy of a certain designer one (for something structured) or here’s one that would add a slouchy feel to any outfit.
A linen shirt
I know I said no layers, but a linen shirt is a perfect summer layer. I throw one in the car and grab it to go inside chilly stores and restaurants. This shirt is my new favorite for the price (and my husband and I both got one, so we can share!). I chose a medium for an oversized fit.
Fun necklaces
In the summer a layered necklace look can be nice because they’re one of the only ways to add dimension without adding warmth. Have you seen Lizzie Fortunato necklaces? They are providing me with major inspo! But my bank account says no!
Instead, I have been on the hunt for fun necklaces to add to my typical all-gold choices, and Etsy has some real treasures:

I’ve been wearing my red ankle socks with sneakers lately for a summer camp vibe when paired with shorts. I like a subtle nerdy look, and these are great with shorts! And they add a bit of color to my outfit. Bombas continues to make the best pair. Maybe I’ll go for frilly next? Or slouch these down a bit for really fun colors.
