Hello! Today I’m reviewing the Everlane women’s denim short. When did shorts go from fine to bad? For me, it was the summer after college. Nothing in particular happened, I just saw myself in a picture of denim shorts and thought “whoa, those are so short.” As I recently complained about in an instagram comment, why is it so hard for women’s clothing designers to get that I want a 5″ inseam, loose leg, and medium wash with no distressing? Where is the happy medium between seductive camp counselor and mom picking kid up from camp?! Anyway, I finally found shorts I feel ok in, and they’re the Everlane Denim Short. Here’s my review and some summer denim shorts styling inspiration.
Ok, these shorts. They’re $58 and have between a 3 and 5″ inseam depending on how much you roll them. I like mine rolled once with a 4″ inseam. They have a raw hem so they unravel a bit as you wear them but not enough to bother me. And yes, there’s some distressing on my pair but I really ended up liking them–they seem like a good dupe for the AGOLDE pairs everyone is wearing.
I sized up to a 29 in these because I believe shorts should be loose. They are really loose in the waist but the leg is just barely loose enough (I think tight shorts legs are not flattering on me, just a personal gripe). I don’t mind the fit and wear a belt when I want to tuck something in. I also got the pure clay color and was surprised by what an instant favorite it was. Not as precious as white shorts but still a good contrast to all my black tops.
Everlane also makes a cheeky pair and a longer pair, but given my rant above you know this was the right pick for me. Now, how to style them?

I was quite drawn to the black sweater combo and immediately tried it with my favorite summer sweater from Brass and these mesh flats. Espadrilles and an oversized button up was another comfy combo.
I’m glad to finally have denim shorts to keep cool in this summer!
