Back to school shopping isn’t just for kids and new binders: if you’re looking for teacher-friendly clothes you may also be on the hunt! I love scouring the mall for the best casual teacher outfits, so today let’s look at what Madewell has to offer in terms of female teacher clothes!
Teacher tops and dresses

This lightweight polo seemed like a perfect fall transition teaching style! It felt so lightweight on and it’s 40% off right now! It is a cropped style. I’m wearing a medium!

This denim dress felt like a versatile teacher style option–high enough neckline, long enough dress, plenty of layering options if you treat it like overalls. I found it true to size (I’m wearing the medium and am 5’11”).
I ended up passing on this because I could envision it with tall boots but I don’t have those–any time something seems like it would be “perfect if only I had X” it’s a no for me 🙂

Next, I tried on a vest because they are having a moment. Loved the linen blend for breathability because in early fall my classroom is HOT! Unfortunately, if you’re busty I think you should size up 2 sizes in this. I am wearing an 8 here and would have needed a 10. The black version is on sale.

Ever distracted by the sale section, I almost bought these shorts. But this merino-blend tank was the true star of the show–great color, great fall transition teaching style. It felt incredibly soft on and I love the high neckline as a teacher style. I’m wearing the medium.
Trendy teacher pants

I saw these super wide-leg jeans and thought they might be a good teacher clothes option–who wants to sit in restricting pants all day! But I still like looking trendy as a teacher and these are definitely an “in” look for 2025. I passed because the size 29 felt great but looked like it was pulling across my hips.
This little ruffly tank, however, was a good option! With a black bra, it would not look transparent. I love a little detail on a simple top to keep it interesting!

Then I tried on the canvas wide leg pants and was like WAIT love. I think the black stitching is such a cool little detail, and these felt very effortless, minimalist, cool girl teacher. I sized up to a 30 to get the right look, but would have to tailor the waist. Also, a heads up, these have a mega-long inseam! 32 inches!
Teacher accessories
A few more things I saw in the store and loved:

This belt (all my belts are from Madewell and the quality is great!)
Silver earrings (I have last year’s version and wear them weekly)
Studded tote bag (would fit a 13-inch laptop vertically)
And, as a heads up, if there is one category I always skip at Madewell it is the shoes. Teacher shoes need to be the most comfortable thing in the world, and I have just gotten too many blisters from their shoes, no matter how cute they look!
