It may be summer, but if you’re wondering what to wear to grad school orientation in the fall, or what to wear to teach as a grad student, Old Navy has some great women’s clothing right now! Here are some of my favorite options, plus 4 outfit ideas for graduate students!
Last week, I did a bunch of try-ons at Old Navy—you can see them all here! From that, I whittled down the wishlist to only the best to make a capsule wardrobe that could work for summer and fall teaching and help you figure out what to wear to grad school orientation.

Here’s what I loved:
Linen vest (this tie option is nice too!)
And from this list, here are a few fun outfits you could make!
For Orientation:

Grad school orientation is WARM. There might be walking, stairs, and moving into offices. I definitely recommend dressing in light clothing that feels polished, but there’s no need to dress up, typically! These Tevas are stylish walking shoes, or sneakers are a fine choice! I added a simple red tote bag that can hold a laptop and notebook for taking some notes. Fun daisy necklace optional 🙂
For teaching:

The first day as a teacher can be so nerve-wracking! I always tend to pick more formal teaching outfits for the first week (yes, even though the weather is warm). It’s easier to move into more casual outfits later than vice versa!
My teaching outfit formula as a grad student was always 1 business item to 2 casual items. Just 1 dressier piece of clothing will help you to not be confused with a student, if you’re worried about it! Here I paired the linen skirt and blazer with a graphic tee –that’s 2 business casual items! So I added sneakers to keep it fun.
What outfits would you make? Does anyone have advice for styling the vest? I know we’re wearing them as tops right now but I’m at a loss!
