When it’s 100 degrees out, I don’t feel like getting dressed at all. But sometimes, we must. Here are heatwave outfits that I actually find tolerable during extreme summer temperatures.
Pay attention to fabric

The first thing I like to do when picking heatwave outfits is prioritize natural fabrics above all else! Short exercise shorts look like they’ll keep you cooler than long linen pants, but when you factor in breathability and sun protection, I find this is not the case! Linen is definitely the best for hot weather–I would say hemp is a close second, and then wool is third (I know, what! But lightweight wool fabrics–not scratchy wool jackets–are actually a a great choice).
Bored with heatwave outfits? Pile on the textures.

My number one complaint about summer is that summer outfits are boring. You put on shorts and a tee and…that’s kind of all you can do. Don’t even think about telling me to drape a sweater over my shoulders when it’s 100 degrees outside. But, textured clothing and statement accessories can really add interest! Here are some of my favorites:

Breezy, long midi skirts

A midi skirt solves 2 problems: air flow and sitting in your car when it’s the temperature of the sun after running a single errand. My lightweight tiered midi skirt is one of my most grabbed items for summer style.
Pick (secret) sportswear

Athletic clothing has come a long way–basically every activewear brand has a more polished section on the website these days, which means there are some great sweatproof options out there that will keep you cool during a heatwave. I personally love what Lululemon and Athleta are doing in these categories! My black shorts (above) are from Lulu and many of my work pants are from Athleta. A few winners:

I hope you are staying cool and these heatwave outfits are helpful for ladies getting dressed for work and errands and whatever else we must go outside for anyway! You can also check out last year’s hot weather outfits or even more hot weather outfits!
