What are we wearing this month? As the weather changes, I’m always a little stumped. So today, I’ve rounded up a week of May outfit ideas for women. Most of these outfits are casual or could go to a casual workplace (I am always the most relaxed about teacher style at the end of the semester! Bring on the jeans and sundresses!).
Spring office outfits
May is a weird time for office dressing. It’s starting to get warm, but the weather is not too hot yet. I try to reserve most of my summer dresses for June and July, when I’ll be wearing them constantly. One May outfit idea I return to repeatedly is the lightweight pant:

Fabric makes all the difference here! A simple linen trouser with a lightweight cotton top is really all you need to be ready for work. A couple options I love:
Tie top (I abandoned this in my shopping cart 100 times and can now confirm it’s lovely!!)
Green top (the ultimate cool tee! It runs big so size down and enjoy the vibes)
Ballet flats (I own 3 pairs of these now, they are that good. You can get $30 off if you use my friend link!)

I also love to give some structure to a breezy dress! Here, I did that with a black belt and ballet flats:
Dress (Size down one!)
Silver flats (last chance for these! They are my absolute go-to, so comfy for work)
Casual May outfit ideas
Picking casual outfits for warm weather is always a challenge for me! I want to look cute and shorts and a tank top doesn’t always feel that special. A few outfits I’ve enjoyed reaching for lately:

Wide leg pants + a tee or tank top + cute summer sandals and I’m ready to go:
Tank top (has built in bra pads–my new favorite weekend top)

I’m also still loving the boxer shorts trend. They are so lightweight! But, they can feel ultra casual (think: PJs) unless you put them with a different vibe. Here, I chose a leather woven tote (and I piled on the necklaces) to clearly state “I am an adult in a casual errands running outfit and not on my couch binging White Lotus!”
Tank top (another bra tank!!! I find them TTS, even if you have a bigger bust)
Date night and happy hour outfits!
Behold, the category of dressing I am the worst at! I have a lot of professional office clothes and a lot of casual work from home clothes. I have a harder time deciding on cute happy hour outfits as a 30-something woman. But there were two I liked this month!!

I wore this on a fancy date night to celebrate getting tenure (hard launch!):

I wore this for a casual work outfit that transitioned to happy hour after!
There you have it. I hope these May outfit ideas are helpful if you’re also confused by changing seasons! Which one is your fave?
Need even more spring outfits? Or how about a spring work conference packing guide?

Ahhhh! Congratulations on tenure! That’s such a wonderful milestone.
Unrelated: Thank you so much for suggesting Stylebook in a recent post! I immediately downloaded it, and now I’m obsessed – it’s been hugely helpful in terms of getting me to wear more of my closet. It’s also just fun to work with 🙂
Thank you!! I’m so glad you’re enjoying it. I love the stats!!!
Congratulations on getting tenure!
Thanks Vickie!!! 🙂
