January Round Up: Outfits, books, and recipes I loved

Sure, we’re 10 days into February, but here’s a recap of what I loved last month!

What I wore to return to professor life

I was majorly back to school this month and it actually felt so good, ugh I am not meant to sit in my house and write all day! It was interesting to reconnect with work clothes–I just tried to notice what worked and what didn’t!

Here are a few style highlights:

In the fall I prohibited the purchase of work clothes. If I didn’t get to wear them everyday, there was no point in buying more. Instead, I tried to focus on buying a few casual pieces that would actually feel stylish and fit my real life. I spend many work from home days either going for walks or on my walking pad, so what I really need are cute sneakers and layers–

This Eddie Bauer zip up adds something a little extra to all my walk outfits!

These Asics are my favorite (I have 2 pairs!)

I simply cannot wear an uncomfortable shoe this semester! My classroom is a dang hike away from my office. If you have comfy and stylish options that are not sneakers, I would love to hear them. I just bought these and am already so excited to style them.

For now, I’m rotating between the Asics, these Allbirds, and Sambas.

This month I also learned that I really only need 2-3 pairs of work pants. This is….not how many I own. But I kept reaching for the two that really, really work for me, and no one cared or commented.

I also tried a nice new work top from Modern Citizen (gifted) and I am excited about the layering-with-a-blazer possibilities.

What I read and listened to

I enjoyed several great reads this month:

Small Things Like These: Fiction. Phew, if there’s ever a time to read a book about how small actions make a meaningful life, it’s probably now.

No More Tears: Nonfiction about the many scandals of Johnson & Johnson! Includes those you remember (asbestos in baby powder) and those you will wish you didn’t read (numerous harmful prescription drugs, ughhh).

Four Thousand Weeks: Nonfiction. This is a book you should read if you say “ooh, a time management book!” because it’s not really about time management, it’s about accepting the myth of time management. I do wish it was more solution-oriented (it’s really about changing your attitude).

I also started a new podcast, Petty Crimes, which is excellent if you love a gossip.

Recipes for busy work days

Finally, someone suggested a recipe round-up for busy teaching days. I really enjoyed cooking this month, here were my best-of-best quick and easy recipes:

Brown butter gnocchi (you could halve the amount of butter, but why would you??)

Pita burgers (so great we made them twice)

Chuck roast tacos (this was crazy easy)
