Where the heck are the women’s work tops?

If you work on campus or in an office you may find yourself in a women’s work top drought. Or is it just me? Suddenly, every 2025 trend is backless, strapless, or ties in the front, eliminating any ability to wear a bra. So I did some online window shopping. Here are some women’s tops and blouses that are office appropriate.

Vests, obviously

The first option for women’s work tops is…not a top at all. But vests are everywhere right now. This Quince version looks particularly good. I had a vest last year and wanted it to feel more chill and less fitted–plus I think this “french blue” color looks great with burgundy and brown in the fall!

Waist definition, please!

I was deeply skeptical about the return of the peplum top, but I like that that meant “tops that cover your arms and provide waist definition and go with all those wide leg pants you bought last year.” This particular option is pricey, but I tried it in-store and loved it. Abercrombie has a long-sleeve option as well.

Ultra lightweight work tops

Possibly an extension of everything being sheer lately, this light and breezy top has tempted me multiple times this year. But Dissh prices are high and it’s not my favorite color, so I’m also considering a more customizeable option for half the price!

Sleeveless cardigans

Short-sleeved and sleeveless cardigans are having a moment, and as someone who is often cold at work, I accept. This Modern Citizen option has been calling to me. I think it would look awesome with wide-leg trousers or a-line midi skirts are work this fall! Need a short-sleeved option for your office dress code? Abercrombie has you covered.

That’s what’s on my wishlist in terms of women’s work tops–do you have anywhere else you like to shop for office clothes?

PS–need a great suit on a budget?

  1. I’ve had luck shopping at Loft and Ann Taylor for work tops. Ann Taylor is pricey but they have frequent sales. Loft offers discounts for educators.
