Dirty Labs review

Dirty Labs product review

I’ve been using Dirty Labs products for 2 years now–ever since I searched for gentle laundry detergent suggestions on Reddit. Now they have multiple cleaning products, including dishwasher detergent, toilet bowl cleaner, and several types of detergent. Here’s my Dirty Labs review of all the products I’ve tried so far!

The original product: Dirty Labs Hand Wash detergent

Gentle laundry detergent reviews

I originally bought from Dirty Labs because they had a hand wash detergent. I had been a faithful The Laundress customer until they had a voluntary recall due to contamination (an “aha” moment, because I had been dealing with a super weird skin rash. It disappeared the moment I threw the products out). I’m sure this was simply an accident but after several doctors visits about the whole ordeal I had learned that my skin was pretty freaking sensitive. So then I went looking for a Dirty Labs review and enter: the Dirty Labs Hand Wash Detergent.

I simply have no complaints about this detergent. I use it to wash cashmere, silk, and my bras in the tub. I stash it in the bathroom with a tub stopper, and I have fewer excuses to avoid hand washing clothes.

I guess if I have to be picky, the only “con” is that the scent isn’t that strong, which is actually a pro if you are sensitive to scents.

Now that I’m on bottle three of hand wash detergent, Dirty Labs has perhaps noticed my Instagram tagging. They offered to send me a few products to try, gifted, but didn’t ask for anything in return. The rest of these items are gifted and I’ve been testing them out for 3 weeks.

The regular laundry detergent is also good. Better than the handwash detergent if you want the reward of a really good scent! Otherwise, it’s laundry detergent. My clothes have looked and felt the same they always have coming out of the washing machine.

In terms of eco-friendly perks, I do love that they package detergent in aluminum, which is much more realistic to recycle than plastic jugs. If you want to nerd out about it, aluminum is infinitely recyclable and can be back on the shelf as a new product in 2 months!!

Dirty Labs Dishwasher Detergent

The dishwasher detergent is favorite product in this post! It smells incredible. Which is a weird thing to say about dishwashing detergent. The dishes? Smell incredible? The dishwasher after? Incredible. I swear my dishwasher looks cleaner inside as well but it’s possible I’ve just never opened it to sniff it before.

The cons: If you have hard water, you will need 2 scoops of this, which means it will get you 24 loads instead of 48. At $20 a package, that’s not exactly cheap. But, I will be repurchasing, because it works and it’s biodegradable, which means it is gentle on my house’s super old pipes. Again, the dishwasher detergent and toilet bowl cleaner are packaged in 100% recyclable containers!

Dirty Labs Toilet Bowl Cleaner

Dirty Labs toilet bowl cleaner review

The toilet bowl cleaner is a new product from Dirty Labs, and they specifically asked that I try it out. Many cleaning products contain concerning ingredients, which means women are more likely to be exposed to them because women clean more (but I don’t want to overstate the danger here: we are typically exposed to small amounts).

Nonetheless! If I can remove some of those ingredients from my life and still have a clean house, I say yes. The toilet bowl cleaner also works. I didn’t look into the science of it being a probiotic toilet bowl cleaner. Like the dishwashing detergent, it smells great, and will have you wondering why you never had a bathroom cleaning product smell good.

The cons? It has to sit in the toilet for 20 minutes. I tried to scrub it after 3 minutes (the minimum Dirty Labs suggests) and it didn’t do much. But after 20 it was as effective as my previous toilet bowl cleaner.

That’s my Dirty Labs review (so far!). They also have a nice laundry starter set (would make a thoughtful housewarming gift).
