Are you a young woman looking for professor outfit ideas? Maybe you’re trying to pick professional female professor outfits but retain your sense of personal style? Here is a month of outfit inspiration, especially for cold weather professor outfits!
So, as a young (ish) female professor, deciding what to wear can be a challenge. We all want to feel good and confident at work, but we also want to be taken seriously. I am always trying to toe the line between personal style and professional style when I teach. Throw in winter temperatures and my outfit inspiration was seriously lacking this month, so I challenged myself to make a month of professor outfit ideas. Here’s the first week, plus some style prompts if you are also in a style rut!
Make a faux-matching set

The first outfit idea you could try this week is to make a faux-matching set. Grab a cardigan or sweater and a pair of pants in a matching tone (if they don’t perfectly match, that can also be cool! Try saturated and dusty colors together and see what happens!).
Cardigan (this is a very light cardigan. I would say it’s more of a top!)
Pants (choose your smaller size)
Make a faux-suit

Next, the same idea as above but ~~fancier~~. You probably don’t need to wear a full suit as a college professor, but you can play with the outfit formula just the same! Here, I paired a plaid blazer with a pair of pants that picked up the color of the pants.

Pile on the texture

Whenever a teaching outfit feels flat to me, the answer is usually to add texture. So if you look at your outfit and would describe every item you’re wearing as “smooth,” this tip might be for you. Try adding a stitched sweater, some pleats, or both!

Winterize your summer skirt

You know your summer midi skirt? Next, pull it out of storage and try to give it the winter treatment. I wore mine with flats and a mockneck tank on a super mild day (Vegas winter, heh), but think tall boots and a blazer would look super chic with this outfit!

Clark Kent

Ok don’t laugh, but last winter I got very inspired to layer bright red turtlenecks under neutrals. It adds such energy to a regular winter outfit! On a colder day I would add brown tights to this look.

That does it for week one of young woman professor outfits! See you next week for more styling ideas! Looking for more inspo:
