2 Weeks of Fall Teaching Outfits

Today we have a plain old teaching outfits roundup. The fall transition weather always makes me ask “what did I wear last time it was this nice out??” In other words, picking professor outfits takes just a little more time as my fall memory jogs. Here are 2 weeks of outfit ideas so far.

Pops of red

You didn’t have to tell me twice that shades of red are “in” right now. But are they ever really out? I’ve been enjoying mixing them up with my neutral basics.

Shoes

This outfit was perfect for a writing day on campus where it was still pretty warm (80) in the middle of the day. I’ve been pleasantly surprised by how often I reach for red sandals since thrifting them on whim last year! And you already know about my love for the Old Navy cargo pants for casual days and fieldwork.

Silver!

Ok, sensing a trend here of starting with the shoes and building the outfit around that. I saw this fit in a very stylish Madewell image and immediately got to work recreating:

Loafers

I got this button up in my Universal Standard Mystery Box last month and have been reaching for it often! It has a couple smart snaps between the buttons that make it very teacher-friendly!

The return of old trends

This outfit was the culmination of too much Pinterest browsing before work, trying to find the perfect 75 degree outfit. 75 degrees is too perfect, and therefore too much pressure, for getting dressed. I’m not sure I was thrilled with this even though it pretty much looked like the Pin. If you’re not wearing sunglasses and holding a to-go coffee you lose half the cool factor, I think.

Sneakers

I have warmly welcomed the return of the maxi dress, but this next outfit really threw me for a loop–

High school Rebecca is that you in the ballet flats and dragging on the floor jeans?!? Though 16 year old me would maybe approve of this outfit some key differences now are flats that don’t smell (praise) and jeans that actually fit (after years of tracking down the right vintage pair!!!). We’ve come a long way.

The best work pants return

There’s always that day when the temperature dips and you must renegotiate the pants drawer. It’s a clarifying moment, to be sure, because I reached for one particular pair 3 times in 2 weeks:

These are the Brass sailor pants. They deserve special mention–I saw many rave reviews online before I finally grabbed them, wondering why everyone loved them. The answer is they are absurdly soft. The kind twin of Jesse Kamm sailor pants. Give ’em a try.

I also wore them with a couple things you should add to your thrift watch list: any Eileen Fisher tank top and the Everlane Modern Babo shoe, which is the softest leather ever.

Finally, I rounded out the week by going full on spooky season:

This Quince silk skirt has been the perfect warm, neutral color (you can get an extra 10% off with code INFG-PHDINCLOTHES10). Today I wore it with a screen tee stolen from my husband and the best comfy loafers (or are they?!? more shoe reviews coming next week!).
