June is a wrap! Here’s what I wore for work-from-home life, coffee shop outings, and teaching summer school online. Plus, an update on my summer quests!
In the summer, my whole academic clothing style switches to beige, it seems. I might be in my light academia style phase?? Meaning my outfits end up sort of preppy, sort of simple, and hoping for an overall feeling of optimism, relaxation, and chill (all words I DO NOT feel at the beginning of academic summer, but that doesn’t mean we can’t try!).
Linen outfits
In my opinion, light academia goes hand in hand with linen. But I haven’t always enjoyed linen when I purchased it in the past until I implemented a few style guidelines for myself, which are basically 1) don’t pick things that make you look like an earth mother (power to you if this is your look–I am aiming for linen that feels structured these days) and 2) neutrals are easier to incorporate by the bright linen pieces I love but never wear.

Enter Grae Cove, which I did an Instagram partnership with this month. I have already worn their pull-on shorts 3 times this month because they’re light, comfy, and have big pockets. They’re a lovely swap for my typical athletic shorts when running errands.
I also tried a shirt dress, which I am excited to teach in!

I found the size chart accurate for both items and picked a Medium in both. If you are browsing for any linen, you can use my code, PHD20, for 20% off.
A whole lot of shorts
I usually get annoyed with shorts all summer, but I’ve settled on two “uniform” ways to wear them that I really like. The first is with a button-down shirt as a sort of third piece, which is perfect for chilly coffee shops and stores.

I also like a crew neck tee tucked into a-line shorts!

All the dresses
How are your summer side quests going? I posted on TikTok about creating fun summer goals, and mine ranged from life-changing (buy a house) to mundane (find a great sandwich shop). I regret to say I haven’t solved the sandwich issue yet, but we did buy a house! I wore many dresses to do that because they’re a perfect “I’m pulled together but not trying extremely hard” look. It’s funny, but now I think I will always remember the 5-6 outfits I wore to parts of the house buying process. I like when clothes become associated with good memories!

That’s all for now! I can’t believe it’s already July. How are your summer quests going?? 🙂

Wow! Congrats on buying a house! Love how you casually mentioned it in this post like it was NBD, haha.
