Bras for large breasts when you hate bras

bra recommendations for large breasts

Happy new underwear month! Oh, you don’t celebrate this made up holiday of mine, where you replace all your rattiest bras in January? I highly recommend this tradition, so this year, I’m sharing my top recommended bras for large breasts–especially if you, like me, hate underwire. Alternative title: I tried every trendy bra company that is advertising to you so that you don’t have to (Eby, Soma, ThirdLove…). Away we go!

Best for: shape and lift

There is one bra to rule them all in the BTC group chat (this is my group of friends sporting a DD-cup and up…by the way, have you taken your measurements lately? This much better than average size calculator might surprise you). It is this Soma bra. There is no contest. It’ll make you look nice without underwire. It’ll make you look nice without verging into push up bra territory. It’s the only bra I wear to work.

This bra comes in band sizes 32-46, cup sizes A-DDD (F cup).

Best for: not being perceived

Big boobs are actually so annoying at work because sometimes they are just THERE and you don’t want them to be THERE but alas they are. Enter: a lovely bra that wears like a bralette. This is not a minimizer (which I tend not to like, they end up making boobs look wide-set because that’s actually how they work). It’s just a bralette that functions like a bra (has a real clasp) that is actually very comfy.

This bra is in sizes XS-2XL, but also has a DD option. I wear an F cup and find the DD option just fine!

Best for: feeling cute around the house

The problem with bras for large breasts is they often verge into kinda ugly territory. Not so with this beautiful bralette from Eby! It comes in a bunch of pretty colors. Of course, it’s not lined, so I don’t venture out in it, but it’s a lovely lounging option, and I was pleasantly surprised by the fit, given that you just pull it over your head.

I was not as impressed by these

There are a couple of internet-viral bras that promise a good fit and high quality that I just felt were meh. The first is the ThirdLove t-shirt bra. There’s nothing wrong with this bra, I just think it makes larger breasts look kind of…meh, and we deserve better (imo it sits too low on your chest).

The second bra I WISH I could recommend to you with zero hesitation, because it is extremely comfy, is this bralette. I love my other Eby bras, but I’ve only had this bralette since August, and the fabric is… cracking? around the edges? It’s very strange. And I’ve only ever hand-washed it. I bought another one on black friday ,and I will continue to wear them, so I guess I’ll let you know if it’s just a fluke or not.

Finally, the True & Co bralette is absolutely everywhere. I bought it in a lighter color, and the bra pads were comically visible — like the outer fabric was entirely sheer. It just looked so cheap. I had a black version as well, but I finally got rid of it because it lost its elasticity entirely too fast and became less than supportive in the process.
