Are you off to commencement this Spring and looking for a dress? Wondering where to buy graduation dresses? Here are some grad school graduation dress ideas for 2025!
First, a huge congratulations on graduating! It’s a big day and it will be so fun, no matter what you wear! But if shopping for grad school graduation dresses is causing you stress, I have been there!
A few tips about what not to wear to graduation (in my opinion):
–Sleeveless dresses can be a pain because they’re hard to adjust under your commencement robes. But this depends on your comfort level!
-Similarly, poofy sleeves can look a bit silly under graduate robes because of the robe sleeves.
-I would also recommend avoiding maxi dresses unless you don’t mind the look of them peeping out under your robes in graduation pictures.
–Uncomfy shoes are a no. There will be a lot of standing, stopping, stairs, and walking during the ceremony!
With these three graduation dress shopping tips in mind, here are a few dresses I love that are available right now!
Anthropologie
Anthro has a huge selection of dresses that could work for commencement. They are a bit on the high-end, price-wise, but they would also make a beautiful investment you could rewear as a wedding guest, etc (as long as you don’t choose white!).
Corset dress: This is on my wedding guest wishlist–everytime I see a picture of it on someone it’s a showstopper! Comes in beautiful colors and patterns too.
Black button front dress: This has such lovely feminine details and looks flattering!
Abercrombie
Pleated dress: Love the colors and removable straps, plus, a breezy option is a must because graduation robes can be hot!
Mesh dress: If you are not extremely tall, please live out my dreams and get this gorgeous dress. I love the retro feel but still think the length is fun and fresh for your ceremony!
White graduation dresses
Wearing white is a tradition at some colleges! You absolutely do not have to wear white. I chose not to as a graduate student because it was an undergraduate tradition, plus, I wanted a dress I could wear again. But there are some really cute white commencement dresses out there!
Cap sleeve: This Abercrombie dress is in a lovely, breathable fabric and the top ruching looks lovely in person.
Bow tie-strap: This is a bit more of a formal white dress option!
Under $75 (budget friendly) graduation dresses
Seriously, where have all the affordable graduation dresses gone? To find one you might look around for sundresses with interesting cuts or patterns. Here are a couple that caught my eye.
Embroidered mini dress: The details make the difference on this $55 graduation dress! It reminds me of Farm Rio..but for under half the price.
Blue ruched dress: This option is $53, and I think the neckline and ruching make it look extra special!
