A month of professor outfit ideas: Week 2

female professor outfit ideas

Hello academic friends! I am back with another week of professor outfit ideas for winter. Here is week 2 of a month of female professor outfits, especially for cold weather!

Here’s the second week of female professor outfit ideas–plus, “prompts” that may help you shop your own closet for outfit ideas this week!

Add forgotten accessories

First, I tried to reach for neglected accessories this week. I don’t know about you, but in the winter I get stuck in a very clear outfit formula: crewneck sweater and trousers or jeans. This is fine, until mid-January when I am so bored of winter outfits. So, this week I tried to grab for accessories I haven’t worn in a while, including this statement belt!

If you live in snow, you may be wondering: flats, for winter?!? When I lived in a very cold climate, I stashed all of my office shoes in my desk drawer at work! I would wear snow boots in and then swap into flats for teaching.

Layer a button down and blazer

Next, a layering idea with a little twist! Layer an open button down under a blazer or coat for a different look. This is one of those pinterest ideas that is only realistic when the weather is cold, right?!

Blazer (similar–all my blazers are secondhand, this one is from Theory!)

Recreate a Pinterest look

This is obvious, but I go through phases of using Pinterest as outfit inspiration, and then I forget all about it for months. So today I prompted myself to go through my winter outfit ideas board and pick one to recreate. TBH often Pinterest outfits are “cool” looking because the person is a size 0 and standing on some Parisian street corner wearing sunglasses and sipping a latte. But today I made peace with that and left the house in the outfit anyway 🙂

Sweater

Jeans (secondhand–here’s a women’s version in a similar color!)

Flats (on sale!)

Tote

No black

I used to reach for black clothing every day–trying to stretch myself to style outfits without black has been one of the best style prompts! It can be hard to think beyond black, white, and maybe a pop of color. The Tibi color wheel is definitely the best tool for this (here’s a clear explanation)!

Sweater

Pants (size up 1)

Boots

Backpack

Use a special piece

Finally, the last thing I did this week was styled a special piece–you know, that thing you claim to love but you are subconsciously saving and not styling? For me, that’s these Camper boots (they are no longer available but if you want a two-tone boot I am in love with these).

Turtleneck (similar)

Blazer (mine is old Uniqlo so here’s a new one–they’re pretty great for the price)

Skirt (similar)

Boots (similar)

That does it for week one of young woman professor outfits! See you next week for more styling ideas! Looking for more inspo:
