Congratulations on being accepted to grad school! Now it’s the season of visiting grad programs. Which leads to the question, what should you wear to visit weekend?? Here are some tips whether you are interviewing or going on a casual visit to a PhD department.
So there are two types of visits you may be on–visits where you have already been accepted and visits where you are interviewing. They might lead to slightly different outfits…
For a grad school interview, smart casual would be a nice move. You can pick some business items that still feel relaxed (think: stretchy pants!). A couple ideas:
For visit weekend, where you’ve already been accepted and are just there to do a meet and greet, you can probably wear anything. I asked some recent grads about it and they said they would still dress semi-nice because meeting a grad program feels like a very adult thing to do. Here are a couple outfits with jeans that still look sharp:
